When our clients wanted an island and a dining table
At The Pentland Kitchen Company, we love a challenge, and that’s exactly what we had recently.
A client who wanted a kitchen island AND a dining table in a space that you wouldn’t usually get both in.

The kitchen island and dining table challenge
We’re slaves to the cause and happy to design pretty much anything though, so after asking the usual questions of whether they just wanted a breakfast bar or a smaller, butchers block-style island instead and getting the clear ‘no’, we needed to get busy.
And it was an exciting overall project! They also wanted to open up two rooms to create a large open plan space for living, kitchen and dining.

An oak dining table and quartz worktop
So we got to work, and as you can see from the photos, we rose to the challenge. The oak dining table fits nicely underneath the Calacatta Aurum Quartz island worktop (complete with waterfall edges), and the two together beautifully fuse the modern and the traditional.
Another part of the brief was a contemporary kitchen that was still cosy and inviting, so we installed a Porter handleless kitchen in Matt Hartforth Blue, a blue that creates desired cosiness, while still modern and luxe.
We also installed a full Neff appliances package, including the ever-popular Slide ‘n’ Hide Pyrolytic oven and venting hob, creating an ultra-minimalist look and keeping the kitchen looking clutter-free.
The end result looks fantastic, and has given them exactly what they wanted, even though it felt like a pretty tricky challenge when they first approached us.
