How to Create a Galley Kitchen
Are you trying to create the perfect galley-style kitchen?
A galley kitchen – typically a long, thin space with cabinets and worktops running down each side – is common in traditional terraced houses and often city apartments where space is a premium.
We recently created one such kitchen for a happy client. They were after a statement kitchen that would tie in with the style of the rest of their Edinburgh flat. However, as their kitchen doubled up as a walkway through to other rooms, it was important it didn’t look messy or crowded.
As always – we gladly accepted the challenge, and here’s how we achieved it…

To create a minimalist look, we used Porter Graphite on the handleless rail system. Removing the handle aspect from the kitchen also provided a larger walk-through space and reduced the risk of snagged clothes or bumping small heads.
We teamed this unit with the Attico quartz kitchen worktop and a white tiled splashback to lighten the room.
The addition of distressed oak shelving to match the floor added a rustic, warm feel to what can sometimes be a cold style. These shelves look exceptional when teamed with tidy storage jars, pretty crockery, artwork or indoor plants.
We also converted a mezzanine level into a storage cupboard for more storage space as part of this project.
The result – one happy client!
